New Jersey’s senior senator is soon going to be making another vow, this time of marriage.
U.S. Sen. Cory Booker announced on social media on Tuesday that he is engaged to his girlfriend, Alexis Lewis.
In a post that included photos of his fiancé flashing her ring, Booker wrote he is “savoring the soul-affirming wonder of everyday life with my partner, best friend, and now my fiancée.”
“Alexis is one of the greatest unearned blessings of my life,” he said. “She has transformed me, helping me to ground and center my inner life, and discover the joys of building a nurturing home with someone you love.”
He went on to say he is “excited for this journey ahead, having so much fun, and feeling deeply grateful for the love, support, and energy so many of you have shared with us.”
The 56-year-old senator has never been married but has been linked to high-profile women in the past including a two-year relationship with actress Rosario Dawson.
Booker said in an interview earlier this year that he had met Lewis more than a year ago and had “ambitions” to get married and have kids.
The senator made history earlier this year with a marathon speech on the Senate floor, railing against the Trump administration's actions, policies and plans for more than 25 hours.
