A large-scale search effort was underway along the Evanston lakefront after a professor at Northwestern University disappeared on Labor Day.
Family members said 72-year-old Nina Kraus was last seen leaving her home near Grove Street and Ashland Avenue at around 9 a.m.
"She...unusually, she left the house without her phone, so we've been unable to reach her, unable to track her in any way," said Michael Perkins, Kraus' son.
On Monday afternoon, at the request of police, the Evanston Fire Department used a drone to search along the lakefront near Centennial Park.
"The family said that she would come down here, and obviously the lakefront is a very popular place in Evanston for people to go on a walk," said Commander Ryan Glew of the Evanston Police Department. "So we have been searching
