COLUMBIA, S.C. — New test results show South Carolina students are making progress in English Language Arts, but fewer than half are meeting expectations in math, according to the new SC Ready results .

The Department of Education on Tuesday released test scores for the SC Ready exams , which grade how students are meeting state standards for 3rd through 8th grade.

The South Carolina Department of Education has set a goal of having 75% of students testing at or above grade level. In the latest results, which were compiled from the 2024–2025 school year, the percentage of students reading or writing at their grade level rose from about 53% last year to nearly 60%. At least half of all students met or exceeded expectations in English for every grade level.
