OMAHA, Neb. —

A convicted serial killer filed a motion in Douglas County court saying he's intellectually disabled and therefore cannot be put to death.

Now, a judge has set a hearing date for Nikko Jenkins.

Jenkins, now 35, is asking the court to pay for a neuropsychologist to evaluate his cognitive ability.

The request comes months after he penned a letter asking to dismiss his post-conviction appeals and set an execution date .

Previous coverage:

Jenkins is currently on death row. He killed three men and a young mother — Juan Uribe-Pena , Jorge C. Cajiga-Ruiz , Curtis Bradford , and Andrea Kruger — in 2013.

He also received an additional 500 years in prison for his remaining counts in 2017.

The latest motion comes from his firearms charges.
