Hundreds of employees at Yosemite and Sequoia and Kings Canyon national parks have unionized.

The unionization comes in the wake of mass firings of National Park Service employees earlier this year.

The big picture: The National Federation of Federal Employees announced that around 600 employees at the national parks have unionized. • Over 97% of employees across the parks voted in favor of unionization from July 22 to Aug. 19. • The Federal Labor Relations Authority certified the results of the election last week.
