It seems grocery and big box retailers want nothing but pure profit from selling booze and none of the hassle. Retailers such as Costco, Walmart, Loblaws, Sobeys and Metro are now balking at living up to the agreements they signed in order to start selling booze last year.

It looks like a money grab, pure and simple.

That’s something that will be discussed at a meeting of government officials, retailers and the breweries behind the Beer Store at Queen’s Park on Wednesday. Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy and Premier Doug Ford are said to be frustrated that the companies agreed to terms a year ago and are now trying to back out or get another deal.
