NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. — A Newberry County Sheriff’s deputy has received good news after being exposed to a coyote suspected of carrying rabies . According to Sheriff Lee Foster, the deputy learned late Tuesday that the coyote tested negative for the disease.
The scare began Friday afternoon when a resident in the Beth Eden community shot the animal after it displayed unusual behavior near his home.
The Sheriff’s Office became involved when several other agencies declined to assist the resident. Sheriff Foster said the deputy stepped in to help, ensuring the animal was safely handled and transported for testing.
