RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Less kindergartners are in the classroom at Rutherford County Schools and Murfreesboro City Schools.
It's a trend that is impacting schools across Middle Tennessee.
"Generally speaking, many, many schools are struggling," Vanderbilt University research professor Doug Fuchs said.
Right now, school officials are keeping a close eye on enrollment. The reason is that fewer students could eventually mean less money.

"The quality of K-12 education in this country is not nearly where it needs to be," Fuchs said.
The latest numbers show the Rutherford County School District and Murfreesboro City Schools have seen drops in enrollment, specifically for kindergarteners.
