JEROME — Carl Nellis’ obituary says it all.
When he retired after a career with Idaho Fish and Game, he picked up another job, one of volunteering.
“Carl was born into a family of helpers and doers who were always willing to help anyone, anytime,” his obituary reads.
Nellis helped build wheelchair ramps, installed grab bars, mowed lawns and re-roofed houses. He was pivotal in the restoration of the Yingst Grade trail.
He died unexpectedly in 2022, but his life made such an impression on Mayor Dave Davis that a day of service was named in his honor.
Jerome will mark the fourth-annual Carl Nellis Day of Service from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, as volunteers gather at houses of people who are unable to adequately take care of them.
