CHEYENNE – Lynn Simons, former superintendent of public instruction for Wyoming, died Saturday at the age of 91 in Cheyenne.

She is remembered by family and friends as an intelligent and well-read woman who fought for access to public education for all.

Those who knew her best remember her as someone who always dug into things with great passion, whether that was reading the New York Times every day or uncovering mysteries about her family’s genealogy.

“She was a ferocious reader,” said Cindy Pomeroy, a longtime friend. “I mean, it could be magazines, periodicals, it could be novels, anything.”

That drive was reflected in her community involvement, as well, as she supported things like the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra and the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens.
