OTTERTAIL, Minn. — Peggy Ranney’s adventurous spirit and charisma have defined a remarkable 98 years.

In a time when women weren’t commonplace in the workforce, she became the tourism director for the state of Oklahoma. Then, she went to work on a railroad that she and her husband bought before becoming a renowned party planner.

The Ottertail resident grew up on a crop farm with her grandmother, mother and two sisters. Ranney went on to earn a high school diploma and went on to study business at college. She explained her inspiration to attend college came with a simple goal of “getting out of the house.” She achieved that goal, even while at school, as she worked two jobs between classes and studying.
