Firefighters, DEEP monitoring small brush fire in Washington

WASHINGTON, Conn. (WFSB) - DEEP is monitoring a small brush fire in Washington.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection says it is assisting the Town of Washington with a small brush fire in a remote area of Steep Rock Preserve.

The fire is about 2 to 3 acres.

DEEP says they have five staff members working alongside the town’s fire department.

The brush fire is not a threat to any surrounding homes or buildings, officials said.

DEEP staff members are monitoring the fire overnight.

A possible back burn, a controlled, smaller fire set by firefighters, will be planned for tomorrow if needed.
