MONROE, Mich. — Monroe police are asking for the public's help in gathering information on a Monday night incident where a man absconding from parole was found with an apparent gunshot wound in his leg.

According to police , officers responded to a call in the 900 block of E. Second Street near Kentucky Avenue around 9:15 p.m. and found a 49-year-old man "with a towel wrapped around his left leg, suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound."

The victim told police he was shot while riding his bike and he was taken to the hospital. But, police say they "discovered inconsistencies in the victim's story" while investigating and learned he was absconding from parole.

The victim was taken into custody after receiving medical care.
