MALVERN, Ark. – The Malvern community is mourning the loss of a coach killed in a weekend crash.
Mark Freer was a friend, a father and an assistant coach for Malvern Football. On Saturday night, he was killed in a vehicle crash on Country Club Road just south of Malvern.
Heading into the doors of Malvern High School, head football coach John Fogleman said it doesn’t feel real to have one less Leopard around.
"You just don't think of something happening to someone like that,” Fogleman said.
Losing him has left a weight on the community. For many people, Freer was family.
Athletic Director Mike Scarbrough said he worked with Freer for 30 years.
"[He was] one of the most humble, giving persons that I've ever been around,” Scarbrough said.
