COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – Recent thunderstorms brought abundant lightning to North Idaho, sparking 29 wildfires across the Coeur d’Alene Interagency Dispatch Zone.

Most fires have been contained, but a few remain active, the U.S. Forest Service said in a release.

The Rattle Mountain Fire, located about 13 miles north-northeast of Clark Fork, Idaho, is the latest to emerge. It was reported at approximately 40 acres and currently has aviation resources assigned.

The Ulm Creek Fire on the Coeur d’Alene River Ranger District has been burning in the Ulm Peak Fire scar from 2006. Despite efforts from district firefighters and the Panhandle Hotshots, the fire has grown to about 400 acres. An area closure is pending.
