POWELL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Some concerns have been raised about the level of medical coverage that Powell County Search and Rescue and Powell County EMS can provide.
A hiker died from his injuries after falling more than 40 feet at Whittelton Arch on Saturday.
The county cut ties with a wilderness EMS group back in March.
It was earlier this year when Powell County Judge Executive Eddie Barnes called to terminate the county’s contract with RedSTAR Wilderness EMS, which is comprised of wilderness-certified paramedics.
“RedSTAR was specifically designed to be able to take that burden off of the shoulders of standard EMS, so that way they could maintain coverage on the road,” said Powell County Search and Rescue Chief Jeremy Urekew.
