EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) - All four teams on the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit were recently certified with the National Police Canine Association.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said the process tested both the K-9s as well as their handlers in scenarios that mirrored real-world conditions.
To get certified in Narcotics Detection, the sheriff’s office said each team had to locate multiple drugs hidden in vehicles and rooms. They reportedly had to find all of the drugs in 18 minutes or less.
To achieve their Patrol Certification, deputies said the teams faced a series of tests that included obedience and criminal apprehension tests for the K9s, as well as building and area searches for both the K9s and their handlers.
