KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Knoxville City Council met Tuesday night and discussed several topics, including funding for a new sidewalk and bike lanes on Liberty Street.

Council members voted to approve the project, which is a $1.6 million city, state and federal investment to enhance Liberty Street between Sutherland Avenue and Division Street as a multi-modal route. This will allow bicyclists, pedestrians, transit riders and commuters to all safely share the road.

City officials said the new sidewalk will be built on the east side of Liberty Street, connecting Sutherland Avenue and the Tennessee College of Applied Technology campus, which is located at 1100 Liberty Street.
