BOSTON -- Alex Bregman , in a rare slump of late, picked a fine time to come up with a clutch hit when his team needed it.
Still not running at 100 percent since coming back on July 11 from a severe right quad strain, Bregman summoned enough speed to narrowly beat out a grounder deep down the third-base line that José Ramírez made a great bid on. That two-out, RBI single in the bottom of the eighth gave the Red Sox the lead back in an eventual 11-7 victory over the Guardians on Tuesday at Fenway Park.
Just after Bregman legged out his fifth hit in his last 44 at-bats, Boston surged with insurance on an RBI double by Jarren Duran and a two-run double by RBI machine Trevor Story.
It was a big win, considering ace Garrett Crochet had a rough night. Staked to a 5-1 lead, he gave up six
