MINER, Mo. (KFVS) - Dry conditions and strong winds can increase the risk of brush fires, making it easy to ignite.

And those strong winds caused a fire to spread near several local businesses over the weekend , including the Sikeston Trade Fair.

“Initially, the first thing we saw was off in the distance, and you don’t worry about it as much. But within 15 to 20 minutes, it was covered and pretty fast down through there. And you’re sitting there wondering, ‘Is my gravel parking lot big enough?’” said owner Lucas Green.

Green said they were evacuated for about 45 minutes, and the fire had been going strong for about two hours.

He said it is crazy to think a fire like this happened so close to his business.
