OLD TOWN -- Dozens filled Old Town City Council chambers on Tuesday evening to share their thoughts on the potential of AI data tracking being used to understand city demographics.

Economic Development Director EJ Roach says he's interested in using Placer, an AI data analysis software, to track where in old town public spaces are most used through cellphone pings. Roach says that data could then be used to improve local businesses and attract new customers.

"Municipalities and local government leaders can use location intelligence to attract businesses, optimize their community services, boost tourism and improve revenue management and forecasting," Roach shared.

It's part of an initiative across the greater Bangor area to use Placer to track popular areas within local cities.
