Rockford City Council has rejected a request for a special use permit for construction of 180 residential units on the city's eastside.

The 9-5 vote came during the council's Sept. 2 meeting.

The proposal from Rockford area Realtor Luke Salamone with backing from NBA star and Rockford native Fred VanVleet sought to build up to 64 duplexes and 13 four-unit apartment buildings on 19 acres primarily along Fincham Drive near a commercial area.
