CHICAGO — At least nine people were killed and 52 more wounded over the long Labor Day weekend — increasing concerns that President Donald Trump could use the violence as an excuse to deploy federal troops in Chicago.
Mass shootings in Bronzeville, Humboldt Park and Douglas accounted for 16 of the wounded, according to the Sun-Times.
While homicides and shootings have fallen recently in Chicago, this Labor Day weekend proved to be more violent than last year’s. The weekend spike comes as Trump has threatened to send federal agents and troops to Democrat-led cities, including Chicago, as part of a purported “crime crackdown.”
