SALT LAKE CITY — The University of Utah is starting an initiative to hold more classes outside of “primetime hours” to help ease congestion on campus.

According to Communications Director Rebecca Walsh, “primetime hours” are the time frame during which most classes are offered, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

“For many students, it’s hard to get into classes because in some cases, required classes are only offered once a semester or once a year, and if everybody is trying to get into that Tuesday morning class, it means many students may not be able to get into those.”

Walsh said that starting the spring semester, 50% of classes will be held outside those hours, which should provide students with more options when registering for the classes they need.
