OMAHA, Neb. —

Omaha Sen. Terrell McKinney has called for a hearing in the Urban Affairs Committee to address building code concerns with the proposed ICE detention facility in McCook, Neb .

"The current facility has a design capacity of 200, and they're planning to put 300 individuals in there," McKinney said. "It just doesn't make any sense."

The hearing, which is called under Legislative Resolution 148 , is set for Friday, Sept.12, at 9 a.m.

As the chair of the Urban Affairs Committee, McKinney said he has purview over state building codes and that the legislature has oversight over correctional facilities.
