MADISON COUNTY, Iowa —

A week after a special election that occurred following a petition signed by Madison County residents, Michele Brant was officially sworn in as Madison County Auditor on Tuesday afternoon.

The ceremony occurred during a special county board of supervisors meeting. During the meeting, the official results from the special election were shared with 2,207 votes for Brant and 927 for Matthew Schwarz.

Brant is now the third person to be named Madison County Auditor since the start of 2025.

Back in early July, Teri Kaczinski resigned after a failed fight to hire her campaign manager for a position in the auditor’s office and lawsuit. The board of supervisors then appointed Schwarz to the role. However, the appointment process didn’t sit well with some Madison Count
