A Kings Mountain Police officer has been arrested and charged with assault following a domestic incident on Aug. 31, according to Kings Mountain Police.

A news release said that Officer Edward Ray Padgett, 37, was taken into custody in connection with a "domestic incident" that happened at his residence.

"Following standard protocol, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation was requested to conduct an independent and thorough investigation into the matter," the release said.

As a result of the SBI’s preliminary findings, Padgett was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injuries.

According to Kings Mountain spokesman, Officer Gabriel Thomas, the victim was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
