KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A housing project championed by Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs will house 20 homeless veterans.

Operation Hero's Hill will construct tiny homes, a computer lab and laundry facility for unhoused veterans in Knox County. Mayor Glenn Jacobs said they are committed in stopping the increase in the homeless population.

But the project isn't just helping veterans, it's also shaping the future of local students. It's all part of the 865 Academies, which is a career themed program that connects classroom learning to real-world work.

"They're learning how to be a contributing community member in Knox County," said Shannon Jackson, executive director of college and career readiness for Knox County Schools.
