Fire department to host annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb

LEAGUE CITY

The League City Fire Department on Saturday will host its annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb to honor those lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001 during the deadliest terrorist attacks in human history.

The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday at the Clear Creek Veterans Memorial Stadium, 2305 E. Main St.

On Sept. 11, 2001, 19 al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four commercial airplanes in coordinated Islamist suicide attacks. Two of the planes were intentionally flown into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, causing their collapse. A third plane hit the Pentagon, and the fourth crashed in a field in Pennsylvania after passengers fought the hijackers. The attacks killed 2,977 people,
