Nebraska's move-over law is expanding, and the changes are in effect starting Sept. 3.
Previously, the move-over law only applied to emergency or roadside assistance vehicles. It now states drivers must slow down and move over when approaching all stopped vehicles and road users, which includes pedestrians, bicyclists, people in crosswalks, and agricultural vehicles/equipment.
"Make no mistake, when you don't move over for someone that's having car trouble or someone that's been in an accident on the side of the road, that's dangerous," Lt. Jeremy Thorson, Nebraska State Patrol, Troop A, said.
Law enforcement said they believe this law can help save lives, and like many, NSP has seen how quickly tragedy can happen.
