WILLIAMSPORT — Approximately half of the estimated 16,000 gallons of an oily substance that leaked from a tank in a Williamsport facility that processed wastewater from natural gas fracking operations has been recovered, the state says.
The Department of Environmental Resources provided an update on Tuesday on the cleanup from the spill that occurred Aug. 17 at the closed Eureka Resources facility on Second Street.
As of last Thursday, an estimated 8,000 gallons had been recovered, with additional waste oil still on the floor in containment areas in the building, its report states.
An investigation determined that a corroded fitting on the sample port 3 to 4 feet above the floor of tank N3 allowed the release of approximately 16,000 gallons of oil and gas liquid.
