BLOOMINGTON ( 25News Now ) - If a plane goes missing in McLean County, a dedicated group of high schoolers could be enlisted to help find it.
The students are part of the Civil Air Patrol, an organization that was officially established back in 1941. Now, the group is an auxiliary of the Air Force.
Devices called ELTs, or Emergency Locator Transmitters, emit a signal when a plane has a hard landing or crashes. When this happens in McLean County, the Air Force will often call upon the Civil Air Patrol.
McLean County’s chapter is a composite squadron with adult members and cadets aged 12 to 18.
Cadets are trained military-style, with drills and uniforms.
