THE PITTSBURGH Steelers have left a wide receiver unemployed after he begged to be cut from the roster on the eve of the NFL season.

Robert Woods is on the hunt for a new team after quitting ahead of Sunday’s clash with the New York Jets.

The 33-year-old joined the Steelers on a one-year free agent contract during the off-season.

Woods barely got a look-in during pre-season though.

And it saw him get bumped to the Steelers’ practice squad on cut-down day.

However, Woods was not happy with the situation.

He wants to be a playing member of a 53-man roster.

And after speaking with Steelers chiefs, Woods has now been let go.

He will be hoping to quickly find a new side ahead of the new NFL season.

His resume is certainly strong, having been drafted in 2013 as a second-round pick
