Last week, Winnipeg Police held a press conference to announce arrests after a bicycle chop shop operating out of a wooden shack in a homeless encampment off Waterfront Drive was raided.

Inspector Helen Peters, Divisional Commander of the Central District, emphasized that the officers were so thorough, they even obtained a warrant from the court as part of a stolen property investigation.

“We are cognizant of the fact that this structure may be someone’s temporary shelter, given its location in an encampment area. With that comes an expectation of privacy.”
