Malik Washington allowed himself Saturday night to celebrate his impressive college debut. But when his alarm went off Sunday morning, Maryland football’s freshman quarterback’s preparation started for the next game — which is an early start for a typical week.
The Terps will play Friday night at 7:30 p.m. against Northern Illinois at SECU Stadium. They are one of three Power Four teams that are slated to play that day. By playing on a day with a lighter college football slate, they have a chance to make an impression on a wider audience.
“Our people tend to come out for a Friday night,” coach Michael Locksley said Tuesday.
Maryland has played a Friday night home game five times since 2019. The average attendance for those contests was 43,791 fans (excluding the 2020 game against Minnes
