With Labor Day in the rearview, a wide slate of new laws are in effect across Texas.
During the 89th legislative session, Gov. Greg Abbott signed more than 1,100 bills into law, including key Republican victories on school choice legislation and property tax relief .
“This session will be remembered as one of the most consequential in Texas history,” Abbott said in a Sept. 1 news release. “We made bold promises to the people of Texas — to secure the border and keep Texans safe, to defend freedom, life and property rights, and to ensure every child has access to a great education. And we delivered."
The regular session ended in June and much of what was accomplished there has since been overshadowed by two special sessions in which Republicans rammed through a gerrymandered congress
