Renovations will close South Carolina's oldest bridge until spring.
According to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, the Poinsett Bridge Heritage Preserve is closed until March 31. The park will reopen to the public on April 1.
All access to the property off U.S. Highway 25 north of Greenville will be closed, including the Poinsett Bridge Heritage Preserve parking area.
The preservation work will include repointing the more than 200-year-old bridge's historic lime mortar, replacing missing stones, resurfacing the bridge, and adding a guardrail.
"This preservation project will ensure the bridge continues to stand for another 200 years," according to the Department of Natural Resources statement.
