While he has yet to see his first game action with the Sudbury Wolves, Slovak forward Jan Chovan has picked up bits and pieces over the course of his playing career that have helped to prepare the Los Angeles Kings prospect for his OHL debut.

Just as beneficial as his experience in Finland, where the now 18-year-old played high-level hockey amid a similarly rugged Northern landscape, may be the insight and advice of his father and namesake, who tended goal for the Belleville Bulls and London Knights in the early 2000s before embarking on a lengthy professional career.

“When he played it was a little bit different here, with lots of fights during the training camps and stuff like that,” chuckled the younger Jan, shortly after a practice at Sudbury Community Arena on Tuesday morning.
