Northern Gas Networks and Yorkshire Water have issued statements after a pipe burst in a Leeds neighbourhood.

The Sunningdales in Alwoodley reeks of gas after a water pipe burst and there was a small gas leak sometime during the early hours today (Wednesday, September 3). Yorkshire Water crews were dispatched to Sunningdale Avenue, close to King Lane, at about 6am.

Officers excavated a large hole on the pavement outside homes, patching up the leak by 7.40am. Safety barriers have been put up around the scene, which is next to a tree. The team will be returning to remove any excess water and fill up the hole.

Northern Gas Networks was called out after residents reported the smell of gas. They found the small gas leak at the excavation site.
