A popular Simcoe restaurateur is hanging up her apron.

Heather Pond, who opened the Blue Elephant in downtown Simcoe in 1992, has retired after selling the business.

The pub has been a hotspot for local and international cuisine for more than three decades, and in 2012, it became Norfolk’s first pub and microbrewery.

“I always wanted to sell the business before I was 65, and I sold the business five weeks before I turned 65,” Pond said. “I pushed it right to the limit.”

Pond stayed to assist the restaurant’s new owners, Summer and Snow Tian of Toronto, during the changeover. While she’s no longer in charge, Pond said customers can expect “nothing to change”.
