OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - It was a group effort to get four juvenile Mexican spider monkeys to their new home at the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium in Omaha.
With a rescue effort, the monkeys were saved from illegal wildlife trafficking last spring. They were confiscated by wildlife authorities at the border of the U.S. and Mexico, a release shared Tuesday states.
After they were saved, the monkeys required continuous care in incubators at the Gladys Porter Zoo in Texas. The Dallas Zoo then assisted in getting them to the Henry Doorly.
The monkeys are now settling into their area in the Lied Jungle after a month-long quarantine. Guests are encouraged to go and check out the new residents: three females and one male.
