In a bid to offset the recent tumult at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, California, Oregon and Washington announced a new West Coast Health Alliance on Wednesday. Saying the three states share a commitment to ensuring that public health recommendations are guided by safety, efficacy, transparency, access and trust, the alliance said it will start coordinating health guidelines by aligning immunization recommendations informed by respected national medical organizations.

“President Trump’s mass firing of CDC doctors and scientists — and his blatant politicization of the agency — is a direct assault on the health and safety of the American people,” California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek and Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson said in a joint statement.
