A shopping giant says it will take action after a listing for a shirt included the likeness of a murder suspect.
The $9.59 ‘ditsy floral shirt’ listed on Shein’s website ordinarily would not have raised any eyebrows – except it appeared to be modelled by Luigi Mangione.
Mangione is accused of murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in December last year. He denies murder as well as stalking and firearm charges.
On first glance of the listing a viewer might think it was just another brown haired, thick-browed man – but the similarities between the listing and existing pictures of Mangione have led to speculation that the listing picture could be AI generated.
Shein, a Chinese-owned company, has not revealed which of its vendors submitted the image to them.
