Good fences make good neighbors – and good zoos, apparently. The Great Bend Brit Spaugh Zoo recently finished replacing the majority of old wooden fencing throughout the zoo, including around the bear and bison exhibits. Zoo Director Ashley Burdick said they’ve been working on this project for a while.
“There was a lot of fencing that needed to be replaced,” she said. “The new fence is safer for our animals and visitors, and gives better viewing opportunities for those in strollers and wheelchairs.” She said the metal fencing will last significantly longer than the wooden alternative.
Burdick also provided an update on Luke the lion, who is continuing to heal from his surgery he underwent last month. He had an injury to his tail and the surgery was to prevent further injuries or issues.
