SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - As the world embraces new technologies like AI, 3D printing, and robotics, the medical field is also advancing.

“It seems like every day there’s new technology that comes out, so it makes it exciting, and now robotics is becoming more and more involved in not just in orthopedics but also in general surgery, OBGYN, urology,” said Dr. Peter Crites, Chief Executive Officer for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine for Mercy.

Dr. Crites uses robotics as a shoulder surgeon at Mercy’s Orthopedic Clinic in Springfield.

“Specifically for orthopedics, we’ve got multiple robots here at this facility; it’s not automated, it’s still certain surgeon-driven, but really the goal is to improve planning precision and surgical techniques and ultimately outcomes,” said Dr. Crites.
