Former Wisconsin center and NBA assistant coach Kim Hughes has died at age 73.

Kim Hughes had 39 career double-doubles in three seasons with the Badgers . More than 50 years after his time at UW concluded, Hughes remains in the top 10 in program history with 806 rebounds in his three seasons on the court. His 11.2 rebounds per game in his career rank second in program history, trailing only Joe Franklin’s 11.9 rebounds per game in 1966-68.

The 1974 Wisconsin team that Hughes and his twin brother Kerry starred on went 16-8, which was the Badgers’ best record in more than a decade. Kim Hughes was a UPI all-Big Ten third-team honoree in 1974.

Hughes played in the NBA from 1976-81 with the New York/New Jersey Nets, Denver Nuggets and Cleveland Cavaliers. He also was a 1976 ABA champio
