OAKRIDGE, Ore. - Firefighters are battling the Emigrant Fire, which has already consumed 26,135 acres southeast of Oakridge and remains uncontained, according to Willamette National Forest officials.
Forest Service officials said that a Red Flag Warning is in effect until 9 p.m. tonight, with hot, dry, and unstable conditions contributing to the fire's aggressive behavior. Crews have strengthened primary control lines and established secondary lines to prevent the fire from advancing toward the North Umpqua River drainage.
Aircraft are strategically stationed in Creswell, Oakridge, and Toketee to support ground operations. The National Weather Service predicts temperatures to reach the lower 90s, with abundant lightning expected.
