President Donald Trump’s recent comment that Baltimore is “ so far gone ” regarding crime ignited a fierce online debate between the city’s many critics and its most ardent supporters. In truth, both sides have valid points.

U.S. News & World Report, in July, ranked Baltimore as the nation’s fourth most dangerous city. Crime levels certainly remain alarming, but they have improved. This year, according to data released by the mayor’s office, Baltimore has seen a 24% decrease in homicides and an 18% decline in nonfatal shootings over last year.
