IDAHO, USA — The Idaho Attorney General is not filing charges against the police officers who shot and killed a 17-year-old autistic teen.

Perez, who had autism and cerebral palsy, was shot 12 times by officers outside his home on the evening of Saturday, April 5. According to his family, the shooting followed a misunderstanding at a family barbecue.

Perez died at the hospital at the age of 17 on Saturday, April 12. He would be 18 today, as Wednesday, Sept. 3 is his birthday.

Police responded to a 911 call alleging Perez was attempting to stab family members and was intoxicated, claims strongly disputed by relatives. The officers involved in the shooting will not be facing criminal charges, according to the announcement from the Attorney General Raul Labrador's Office.
