The Renton Police Department reports that a man died after drowning at Gene Coulon Beach Park while trying to flee officers.

According to the Renton Police Department (RPD), just after noon Aug. 30, officers responded to a suspicious vehicle at Gene Coulon Beach Park, 1201 Lake Washington Boulevard North. According to RPD, two people, a male and a female, left the car and both entered the water to evade the officers.

According to RPD, officers subsequently pulled the female out of the water and detained her, but the male slipped under the water and drowned. RPD identified him as 43 years old.

This incident was considered an in-custody death, and the Valley Independent Investigative Team will take over the investigation.
